All About our Class Blog

Hello to all my new students and families and welcome to our class blog!  This year will be such a fast paced and fun time for your child. You will see them grow and change so much and I am excited to be a part of it!

In an effort to cut costs and still keep families informed many teachers at Mill Creek have decided to have classroom blogs rather than send home weekly newsletters. This will be my fifth year using a blog and I encourage you to check it out at least once a week.  My hope is that by using this blog I will provide you with easy access to all kinds of classroom information and allow you to view weekly events.  In addition to using the blog as a communication resource, I try to keep it updated with all of your child’s homework. The left hand column is for academic interests: reading, spelling, & math homework and websites that will enrich your child’s classroom understandings. The right hand column is for classroom extras such as top runners, monthly calendar of events, and classroom needs. I hope I have organized the blog in such a way to make it as user friendly as possible. Please let me know if you have any pointers on how to improve!  I will update it weekly, with current spelling lists as well as a monthly newsletter with accademic information. You will notice as you explore the blog that I have already listed the entire year of Reading Homework assignments . I will change the Unit and Lesson numbers into dates as we begin the year. For example, U1-L1 will read (Week of 9/19) as I begin to assign weekly reading homework. All you have to do is click on the date and the assignment will open.

Please make sure that you check it weekly!!! The easiest way I have found to stay informed would be to bookmark this website for easy access or enter in your email address and you will get an automatic email every time I publish a post.   I'm excited for our new year together and can't wait to see all the smiling faces of new second grade friends soon!

Introducing Mrs. Steers

I can't wait to get to know all of you and your amazing children!  But until we meet, I bet you'd like to know something about your child's new teacher...

I am originally from Ione, Oregon (a town of 275 people total) and moved to Emmett for High School.  My parents are both teachers...my mom, recently retired, is now a volunteer in my classroom (your child will know her as Mama Sue); my dad teaches in Emmett still.  My husband and I both graduated from EHS in 1999.  I went on to get my degree from Eastern Oregon University and married after graduation.  I started my teaching career here at Mill Creek Elementary School as a Kindergarten teacher, moved to second grade my second year, followed by four years in third grade and finally got the opportunity to move back to my FaVoRiTe grade three years ago.  I absolutely love everything about second grade and am so excited to be teaching it this year! I am also an alumni of the great  Boise State University where I received a a master’s degree in Literacy.
My husband and I just celebrated our eighth anniversary this August.  We have two beautiful children, Jordyn (age 6), and Jamison (turning 5 in October).  We live in Sand Hollow with our Golden Retriever and Yorkie/Pug mix (I call him a Porkie).  I absolutely love country living and teaching in such a wonderful and tight-knit community.  It reminds me of my own hometown! It is my hope that your child will have a wonderful experience in my classroom this year.  I am passionate about what I do and I work hard to create a balanced program in which learning is FUN and individualized for each child.  Second grade is an exciting transitional year full of academic growth and personal development.  I look forward to watching your child grow and mature right along beside you!
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have during the school year!
